Vinyl Facts What is Summit's vinyl product made of? The base ingredient is rigid PVC ( polyvinyl chloride ) homopolymer compound as produced by Kroy Building Products, with a high level of titanium dioxide pigment for long term, ultraviolet ( UV ) light resistance and impact modifiers for superior strength. The formulation is similar to that of vinyl siding and windows which have a twenty year history of providing long term durability and structural integrity. What is virgin vinyl? Quite simply, 100% new PVC ( polyvinyl chloride ). Our vinyl products are completely absent of any recycled products. The term " recycled " refers to post consumer or post industrial material coming from the waste stream. Although PVC is being recycled, we do not use the waste stream. Will our PVC turn yellow? No. Our vinyl products contain very high levels of titanium dioxide ( TIO2 ) as well as other chemical additives which prevent ultraviolet degradation. What about dark colors? Titanium dioxide is the main ultraviolet inhibitor in our vinyl. It is a white pigment. High concentration of this pigment make it extremely difficult to obtain dark colors. Furthermore, dark colors absorb heat. The technology to dissipate this heat build up is not currently available. Will our vinyl burn? PVC has a flash point of 900° Fahrenheit and does not readily ignite. Vinyl, therefore, is classified as " self extinguishing ". How strong is vinyl? Vinyl products supplied by Summit Vinyl Industries have been impact modified with a chemical compound. The product formula has been tailored to provide optimum performance in the field. How do I clean my fence? Under normal circumstances a simple rinse with a garden hose will be sufficient. For more stubborn stains however, a cleaner containing a mild abrasive suitable for fiberglass bathtubs is recommended.
